  • Jameel's broad-based corporate practice involves assisting small and large businesses alike with regulatory compliance issues, contract negotiation and drafting and dispute resolution, including business litigation. Jameel's rolodex of clients includes startup companies as well as multi-billion dollar retail chains. In the retail context, Jameel routinely assists clients with creation and development of open and closed loop prepaid card programs as well as understanding the rules of the road regarding deceptive and misleading advertising. Jameel also assists startup companies, entrepreneurs and investors with evaluating the most beneficial structure for new business ventures and preparing corporate governance agreements with an eye towards preventing future investor discord.
  • With over 15 years of experience in the unclaimed property industry, Jameel’s unclaimed property practice involves all aspects of unclaimed property compliance, including, but not limited to, assisting holders with unclaimed property compliance strategies, the negotiation and resolution of voluntary disclosure agreements and unclaimed property audit defense and litigation. Jameel and his team have successfully obtained favorable settlements for large institutional clients in a number of unclaimed property audits dating back to 2006. Jameel has experience defending unclaimed property audits of businesses of all types and sizes, including, but not limited to, life insurance companies, brick-and-mortar and online retailers, financial institutions, information technology companies and restaurant chains.  Jameel’s corporate law background provides him with unique perspective and the ability to mesh corporate obligations, missions and revenue goals with unclaimed property compliance and planning needs.  Jameel is also a member of the Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization (UPPO) and the Holder’s Coalition (HC), organizations that are dedicated to assisting holders of unclaimed property with various aspects of compliance and legislative influence.
  • Jameel also provides legal and business assistance to retail and web-based clients regarding branding and marketing needs.  Jameel works regularly with clients to ensure that marketing and promotional materials are legally compliant. Jameel’s experience in this area includes advising clients about social media marketing, including issues associated with engaging brand ambassadors or influencers. He also helps clients develop and structure various types of promotions, such as sales, coupons, rebates, sweepstakes and contest campaigns.  Jameel has also assisted clients in responding to inquiries from the Federal Trade Commission regarding allegations of false advertising under the Lanham Act or Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act. He also routinely negotiates and drafts agreements relating to client promotional needs, including agency agreements, influencer agreements and other agreements associated with hiring or partnering with special talent or celebrity for marketing promotions.
  • Jameel's liquor practice consists of representing liquor permit holders in administrative matters, including the resolution of liquor law violations, citations, and sales and use tax delinquencies.
  • Additionally, Jameel's experience related to privacy laws and cyber security allow him to assist clients with development of policies and procedures related to the collection and storage of personal information in various contexts as well as advise his health care clients on issues related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
