Bailey Cavalieri LLC is pleased to announce that attorney Matthew T. Schaeffer has been appointed to the independent panel of the Chapter 11, Subchapter V bankruptcy trustees (a “SBRA Trustee”) by the United States Department of Justice.
The SBRA Trustee is a role created by the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019 (“SBRA”), which is a substantial revision to Chapter 11 applicable to small businesses. As a SBRA Trustee, Mr. Schaeffer will have the opportunity to assist in the administration of small businesses who file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as well as working with debtors in possession, secured lenders, and other creditors to build consensual plans of reorganization. Mr. Schaeffer’s territory is the Southern District of Ohio, which he shares with two other SBRA Trustees.
Mr. Schaeffer will continue to represent businesses in need of Chapter 11 protection or which are otherwise in financial distress. His practice focuses primarily on corporate reorganization and workouts, commercial litigation, debtor/creditor rights, bankruptcy, and commercial matters. He has experience representing Chapter 11 debtors, financial institutions, trustees, and a variety of secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy proceedings, litigation, and workouts. Mr. Schaeffer also has considerable experience representing businesses in a variety of non-bankruptcy matters. He has been with Bailey Cavalieri LLC since its founding, and he was formerly with an Am Law 100 firm.
